Why Regular Dental Visits Matter

Brushing and flossing are key, but seeing your dentist regularly is just as important. Cleanings remove tartar that you can’t brush away, and checkups catch problems early—before they become painful or expensive.

Most people should see the dentist every 6 months, even if everything feels fine. Prevention is easier (and cheaper!) than treatment.

You’re Using Your Electric Toothbrush WRONG 😬 (How to Fix It!)

Are you using your electric toothbrush the WRONG way? Let’s fix that. If you’re scrubbing back and forth like you’re cleaning the kitchen floor — stop! Whether it’s electric or manual, brushing should always be gentle. With electric brushes, you barely need to move at all. Just tilt it at a 45° angle toward your gums (up for the top teeth, down for the bottom teeth), gently glide it tooth to tooth, and let the brush do the work. I personally love an electric toothbrush with a pressure sensor — it’ll literally tell you if you’re brushing too hard. Because once those bristles splay flat, they don’t clean properly. Your teeth deserve better. Happy brushing!

What You Eat Affects Your Teeth

Your diet plays a huge role in your dental health. Sugary snacks and acidic drinks (like soda or juice) can wear down enamel and feed harmful bacteria.

Want stronger teeth? Eat more:
  • Crunchy fruits and veggies
  • Cheese and yogurt (great sources of calcium)
  • Water (keeps your mouth clean and hydrated)
Healthy mouth, healthy body—it all starts with smart food choices.

The Power of Flossing – Small Step, Big Impact

Flossing isn’t just a “maybe”—it’s essential. Floss gets where your toothbrush can’t: between your teeth and under the gumline, where plaque loves to hide.

Daily flossing helps prevent cavities, gum disease, and even bad breath. It takes just a minute, but the payoff lasts a lifetime.

Your gums will thank you!

Can Oil Pulling Replace Brushing Teeth? Here's What the Science Says

This video goes over the truth about oil pulling and whether it can actually replace brushing your teeth. As a registered dental hygienist, I break down what the current evidence says, share potential benefits and risks, and explain why oil pulling should only be considered an addition—not a substitute—for brushing and flossing. We also talk about the differences between anecdotal claims and evidence-based care, and why that distinction matters in oral health.

Brushing Basics – Are You Doing It Right?

We all know brushing is important, but how you brush makes a big difference. Dentists recommend brushing twice a day for two minutes, using a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste.

Be sure to brush all surfaces—front, back, and chewing areas—and don’t forget your tongue! It helps fight bad breath and removes bacteria.

A good brushing routine is your first step to a healthier smile.
